Those Beautiful Beams!

I'm no expert (far from it!) on log ceilings, but I do know that no log home is complete without plenty of beautiful exposed beams. And ours will be no exception--yay! We NOW (in the past week) have lots of beams overhead! Although most of the beams we have right now will not be exposed, I think some of them will be in plain view. The majority of our exposed beams ("some called decorative beams") are still to come, though. I'm about ready to do a walk-through with our wonderful builder, because I have questions...just some things I am curious about...but I'm not so curious to go out there in the heat of the day yet! So right now my questions are directed at Hubby, who knows much more about all this than I, which isn't saying much, lol. So his impatient replies to my questions usually range from, "Did you really just ask that?" to "I have no idea. You'll have to ask Brian." Yet I do have to give him credit. Sometimes he explains things very well. But not in my native language. So I just stare at him kind of goofy-like with my mouth half open, nodding. But I'm pretty good at clicking a camera, so here are the latest pics:

We have rooms now!! And mountains!

Today is Sunday and we haven't been out to our future home since Wednesday. I'm having withdrawal symptoms...breaking into sweats (could be due to the heat)...insomnia (too much sweet tea)...sleep-walking (too much sweet tea)...and gaining 5 pounds...hmmm...In any case, I can't wait to go back out there, which we will later today, so I will try to post more pics tomorrow. But today, Wednesday's pics will have to do. And they are wonderful, as you see below. We now have rooms on the main floor. So I can walk around and know exactly what room I'm in. Which makes Terry impatient, because I walk around placing furniture and all he cares about are the wood, tools, and machines. And mountains. We both care about the mountains. That's where we met. It's where Terry was born and reared! So even though Wednesday was not a really clear day, we still got our mountains!

I like that the power line looks like a cross!

Terry thinks I am getting a shot of the huge bolt, but I'm actually getting a shot of how much weight he has lost!

Can't Stay Away!

OK, it's only been 2-3 days since last post, but I just can't stay away! We drove back out last night and met daughter Karen, her hubby, and Adalynn there. Terry and Tre were going to do a little shooting, but they just never got around to it (truly, men are just as "bad" about jabbing their jaws as women are)! It is so exciting to walk around our future home and see that everything (floor plan, etc.) is coming together, just as we envisioned and discussed/sketched together sitting in our den the past few years. So far, I couldn't be more pleased! Everything I read on log home building informs that it is best to choose a tried-and-true stock plan when designing your home, then go from there. I tried. I really tried! I looked at hundreds, maybe even thousands, of floor plans the past several years, both log and conventional home floor plans, thinking that "the one" would sooner or later jump out at me. It just never happened. Most had too much on the second story and not enough on the main floor. Most had the back view that could not easily be reversed. And not the right rooms in all the wrong places!! I do believe that going with a stock plan is the best option all-round for a number of reasons I won't go into right now. But I have no regrets! We are getting just what we want---all the right rooms in all the right places! And I totally trust our phenomenal builder, (even though I have heard that one should never totally trust a builder--Brian Ramey is different). So yes, we still have a long way to go. And I know the "unexpected" may always be around the corner. But right now, I am pumped, so I am going to enjoy being pumped! I am ready to bring a picnic lunch out and have our first meal in our new home! Hmmm...maybe a post on that soon! So only one pic for this post, one that Karen took. Love!

Terry, Tre, and I are looking out his study window, standing right where his desk will be. We have his beautiful desk in storage and can't wait to put it where it belongs! It's too big for our current home!

Moving Right Along...

Well, as you can see in the pics below, we are just moving right along!! SO excited!! We brought granddaughters out with us day before yesterday at midday, and they were getting ready to start the logs! The REAL logs -- whoop whoop! Some logs were stacked on the main floor, ready to go. I pointed and said, "Oh look at the logs ready to go!" And Ava said, "Those aren't logs!" I think she was expecting round logs with bark. I told her we're not building a beaver dam, we're building a
people house! We did decide on logs that are straight on both sides, although I love the round logs as well. I just love all logs. I love wood. I love the smell of wood. I guess that's a good thing, right? We drove out again this afternoon, and wow! They must have been working hard the last couple days! It was after 2:00 and the builders had left for the day...hmmm...I wonder if it had something to do with the fact that it was 100 degrees outside and high humidity...and the fact that they had obviously been working their heads off all week! I only hope that they all have the BEST week-end ever, because they certainly do deserve it! Well, I have rambled enough, so now I will let the pictures tell the story. By the way, have I mentioned how excited I am???!!
