Happy New Home Year!!!!

A belated Happy New Year to anyone who may happen to read this and not just look at the pictures! And surely, 2016 will also be Happy New Home Year as well!!!  This time next year I will be sitting in the sun room, looking at the mountains on the horizon, or most likely dozing on the couch! I may still be cleaning the kitchen from all the people who will be over for Sunday dinner! But one thing is for certain -- it will be a happy new home! So happy New Home Year to Terry and me! Yes, I am still very excited, and yes, I am still trying to be patient, because it could be several months before we move in! Log homes just take much longer to build and build right than traditional homes. For example, the carpenters have spent days sanding boards, just getting them ready to go up on the ceiling.

So what has been accomplished since last post so long ago? One might think from the pics, not much, but actually a LOT has been accomplished! Even in all the rain and mud! I will name a few things, but I am only touching the surface because I really don't understand much of what's been done! I know they have done a lot of stuff underground (mostly in the front) with the plumbing. All electrical is done (I think), light fixtures, ceiling fan fixtures ("fixtures" for lack of better word right now), exhaust fixtures, light switch fixtures, pipes for all the water, HVAC pipes everywhere in the ceilings. Foundation for the 3.5 car garage is started. Stairs and railings for front deck are in. Window trimming has been added, or finished, all doors in now, hardware is in for library pocket doors and pocket door from great room to breakfast area. And more boards have been nailed down in different places, as elementary as that sounds. I am proud of the fact that I know my house so well that I can tell when more boards have been added places! My custom kitchen cabinets are all designed, measured, and ordered. Plumbing and some electrical for kitchen are waiting for that.

Terry and I have 100 decisions to make in the coming weeks and months. We have started looking at the main light fixtures and fans. We already chose our doors and door hardware. I need to choose or design a barn door for my pantry. We still have to choose ceramic tiles, minimal carpeting (I want berber carpet in bedrooms so dust balls don't roll around under the beds and berber carpet on stairs to basement so Adalynn and Ava don't slip and break bones running down there). We have to choose counter tops, paint colors, and make many more choices and decisions. Fun!! We have decided we don't care for the double front doors that came with the log package. They are already installed, but they've got to go! I like that they have a lot of glass, but they are just not pretty or stately enough for either of us, so that will be a "splurge" for us! I have found some beautiful doors in some catalogs, so, yeah, Brian, in case you are reading this, sorry. I think Terry is going to email you tonight...

Well, I could go on, room by room, but this post is getting boring, even for ME! So with no further ado, here are some pics from the past month!

Pocket french doors to library/piano room
Pocket door from great room to breakfast room. This door was a compromise that I am not thrilled about. I wanted to leave it wide open. Terry wanted it closed off. Get that smirk off your face, Terry!
Do NOT let Ava and Adalynn open that basement door!!!!
Bye bye!
